Exness MT4 download: MetaTrader 4 for PC and mobile

The MT4 installer for Windows is downloaded from the official exness.com — no login is needed for the download itself. Below: the install steps, the first login with an account number and server, the MT4 mobile app, and a short MT4 vs MT5 comparison. All platform routes are on the platforms board.

The classic terminal

Exness MetaTrader 4: what the terminal is

MetaTrader 4 (MT4) is the classic desktop trading terminal, connected to Exness through an MT4 trading account. It is older and simpler than MT5 — and it remains the platform much of the automated-trading world was built on.

Built around EAs

MT4's strong side is expert advisors (EAs) — automated trading robots that open and close positions by pre-set rules. Many commercial and free EAs and custom indicators are written for MT4 only, which is the main reason traders keep using it.

An EA automates a strategy; it does not remove the strategy's risk. Trading is risky and may not be suitable for everyone.

9 timeframes, 30 indicators

Chart periods from one minute to one month and 30 built-in technical indicators, with room to add custom indicators and tools. For comparison, MT5 extends this to 21 timeframes and 38 built-in indicators.

Desktop means Windows

The official MT4 desktop package is Windows-only. On macOS or Linux the working routes are the browser Web Terminal — nothing to install — or MT5, which has official packages for both systems.

Opens with an MT4 account

Trading accounts at Exness are opened for a specific platform. An MT4 account is created in the Personal Area — the private dashboard on exness.com — and only an MT4 account logs in to the MT4 terminal.

Windows install

Exness MT4 download for PC: four steps on Windows

  1. Download the installer

The MT4 setup file comes from the official exness.com — the download page is open to everyone, no login required. The same download links are listed inside the Personal Area. Installer files from other websites should not be trusted.

  2. Install and launch

Run the downloaded file and follow the standard Windows setup — a few clicks. When the installer finishes, the MetaTrader 4 terminal opens on its own.

  3. Have the MT4 account details ready

Three things are needed: the MT4 account number, the trading password, and the server name. The account number and server are shown in the Personal Area and in the email sent when the account was created; the trading password is the one set at account creation — it can be reset in the Personal Area if forgotten.

  4. Log in inside the terminal

In MT4, open File → Login to Trade Account, enter the account number and trading password, and pick the exact server name from the list. A green connection indicator in the bottom-right corner means the terminal is live.

If the first MT4 login fails

  • Platform login is not the Personal Area login. MT4 asks for an account number and a server — not an email address. The email-and-password pair belongs to the Personal Area on exness.com; the full walkthrough is in the login guide.
  • Wrong server name. Server names look alike; the one that works is the exact name shown next to the account in the Personal Area and in the account-creation email.
  • The account is an MT5 account. An MT5 account will not log in to MT4. The platform of each account is shown in the Personal Area, and a new MT4 account can be opened there alongside existing ones.

MT4 on the phone

MT4 mobile app for Android and iOS

Android

MT4 mobile on Google Play

The MetaTrader 4 mobile app logs in with the same MT4 account number, trading password, and server as the desktop terminal — positions and history stay in sync because both connect to the same account. EAs run in the desktop terminal, not in the mobile app.

iPhone / iPad

MT4 mobile on the App Store

The same MT4 mobile app for iOS: charts, orders, and account history on the move, with login details identical to the desktop terminal — account number, trading password, and server name.

Not the Trade app

Trade app is for MT5 accounts

The Exness Trade app is a different program: it works with MT5-based accounts only. An MT4 account signs in through the MT4 mobile app above — not through the Trade app.

Which terminal

MT4 or MT5 — which one to install

MT5 is the newer terminal: more timeframes, more built-in indicators, and depth of market — a live order book. MT4 stays the right choice when the strategy depends on MT4-only EAs or indicators, because those are written in the MQL4 language and do not transfer to MT5 directly.

Quick answers

Exness MT4: frequently asked questions

Is the Exness MT4 download free?

Yes. The MT4 installer is downloaded free of charge from the official exness.com, and no login is needed to get the file. Trading costs come later and sit in the account's pricing — mainly the spread, the small gap between the buy and sell price.

Does Exness MT4 work on macOS?

There is no official MT4 desktop package for macOS. On a Mac the working routes are the Web Terminal — a full trading session in the browser, nothing to install — or MT5, which does have an official macOS package.

Where do the MT4 login number and server come from?

Both are created together with the MT4 trading account: the account number and server name are shown in the Personal Area and in the email sent when the account was created. The trading password is set at account creation and can be reset in the Personal Area.

Do MT4 EAs transfer to MT5?

Not directly. MT4 expert advisors are written in the MQL4 language, while MT5 runs MQL5 — an MT4 robot has to be rewritten or replaced with an MT5 version. Depending on MT4-only EAs is the most common reason to stay on MT4.

Can MT4 be tested on a demo account first?

Yes. A demo MT4 account with virtual funds can be opened in the Personal Area — same market prices as a real account, no money at risk. It is the standard way to try the terminal or an EA before trading real funds. How to open a demo →

MT4 starts with an account on the official site

Registration takes a few minutes on the official Exness website — email and a short questionnaire, with identity verification following in the Personal Area. Open an MT4 account there, and the terminal from this page logs straight in. Full registration walkthrough →
